When I decided I wanted pendant lights over my kitchen island, I didn’t want to spend a whole lot of money, so I looked into DIY options. Here is what I found at my local Lowes.Pendant Light Conversion Kits. You use your already existing recessed lights by replacing the bulbs with adapters like these that simply screw in. At $20 per kit that fell right into my budget. I also had two large shades from an old light fixture that I had been saving for a project like this.
My kitchen is primarily white with black granite countertops and stainless steel appliances and I wanted to add a bit of soft color. You know I love Chalk Paint but when I want a smooth glossy surface I turn to spray paint, and usually Rustoleum. For the pendant kit and the interior of the shades I used Gloss Enamel White and for the exterior of the shades, Glacier Blue. A quick and easy project, for $50+, including installation.
Admittedly, I have a thing for lighting. I alway have my eye out for vintage chandeliers at flea markets that need a bit of an upgrade. If you do too, be sure to check out these posts featuring lighting makeovers, French Curves, Paint a Patina, and Pop of Red
Looks amazing….as always
