It’s easy to look at each new piece and think it’s your favorite, but I never expected to absolutely fall in love with a paint finish. I’ve been painting so long, I usually know the direction I’m headed. This being a gorgeous piece to begin with, I only wanted to change the color, and not get in the way of the beautiful grain and structure. So I treaded lightly with the paint, using Classico chalk from Pure & Original. A combination of light layers of Steel Blue, and Lagoon Water diluted to the point of a wash, was all that was needed.
I taped a small pinstripe on the face of the drawers when I painted, to retain a bit of the natural color. To tie all the detailing together, I left all edges exposed.
In an effort to keep my work fresh and creative, and bring new information to my readers, I love to try different paints and color combinations. Pure & Original has been a breath of fresh air for me. The color palette is natural and organic and with 140 colors, you rarely have to mix your own color to find the perfect combination. Classico is a chalk based paint and doesn’t usually require a primer. It’s a dream to paint with, going on easily. Best of all, there’s no need to seal with wax or polyurethane. It’s eco friendly, no VOC’s, made from all natural pigments and a mineral base. Something to consider, especially if you have children in your home. If you haven’t tried it already, you’ll be amazed.
Pure & Original Paint is now available in the USA . It’s made for walls, but I also like to use it on furniture. If you are curious and want to find out more, check out these other projects: Nothing is Easier, Get Your Black On, and A Fresco New Look
I like Annie Sloan Chalk Paint for my craft and furniture projects, but for walls nothing compares to Pure & Original Fresco Lime Paint. I love the natural variations of shades and tones the lime creates within one paint color. You have to see how gorgeous it is! Checkout my most recent interior design make overs with Fresco. It can be purchased online at www.502paint.com
P.S Pure and Original also makes a chalk based paint called Classico in 140 colors! Its amazing too!
I am wild about that color. So is this the wall paint you are using on your furniture? I want to try using this paint on my powder room wall. It is small enough that I figure I can afford to use an expensive paint. Will it paint over latex or enamel without priming first?
Stunning!!!!!
How did you do the pinstripes, did you wax the area ?
What do you use for your pinstripe – just a strip of tape ? Love it !!!!
Hi Leslie. Love ur work! What technique did u use to leave the edges exposed. And how do u compare this paint w annie sloans? Thnks!

I love it!!! It’s beautiful!
Absolutely beautiful.
Hi Leslie, your work is beautiful and videos are very helpful!! Thank you! Have a question – are there a comparable Annie Sloan paint color
S for Pure & Original Steel Blue and Lagoon Water, or a color recipe to mix my own ASCP to equal Pure & Original colors? Thank you again and look forward hearing from you.
Absolutely Stunning!!
Leslie,
I have two of those exact same dressers and would love to use this paint color, technique on them. Did you apply multiple coats of the Steelblue and then dry brush over the final coat with Lagoon Water? Your finish appears to have a nice sheen, so I am wondering if you applied a sealer to finish it off. I hope to place a paint order before sale expires at Pure & Original.
Thank you.
Hi Leslie, I have the same questions as Denise (Nov 23, 2015)…were the diluted layers of two colours painted simultaneously in short strokes or did you paint one layer over the over? Thank you.
Where does one purchase this paint?
Pity there are no replies to the questions asked….
Agree.
